6 Daily Practices to Live with Gratitude.

Gratitude is a powerful emotion, and living a life of gratitude every day is one of the easiest, most impactful ways to transform your life.

Many people underestimate the profound impact gratitude has on our mindset and overall well-being. So often, we get caught up in what we lack or what’s going wrong in our lives. However, when we take a moment to acknowledge the good in our lives, it can help shift our perspective and enable us to better navigate the challenges we may face.

Gratitude is more than just saying, “thank you,” it is a way of being; it’s a shift in perception that changes how we experience life.

Although I make an effort each day to live in a constant state of gratitude, I certainly have moments when I get overwhelmed with everyday stressors or the actions and comments from others. When this happens, I find myself complaining and notice negative emotions starting to take over. Once I become mindful of my negative feelings, I let them pass through and refocus my thoughts on gratitude.

It’s essential to acknowledge and process all your emotions, allowing them to pass through. The key is to let them pass through and not dwell on them.

Once you practice gratitude daily, over time, it will change you and your brain. Gratitude helps rewire your brain to a more positive outlook and a more profound sense of fulfillment.

Ever since I started practicing gratitude on a daily basis, my life and overall happiness have significantly improved. I noticed the more grateful I became, the more things showed up for me to be grateful for.

The Science Behind Gratitude

Studies have shown that practicing gratitude has numerous benefits for both mental health and physical well-being.

Expressing gratitude increases the release of dopamine and serotonin, which are mood-boosting neurotransmitters responsible for making us feel good. When this occurs, it leads to greater happiness and optimism.

Practicing gratitude also enhances your sleep quality and duration. A grateful mindset before bed helps reduce stress, mental clutter, and quiet the mind of negative, racing thoughts. This promotes relaxation and makes it easier to drift off to sleep.

Gratitude also has a positive effect on mental and physical health by reducing stress and anxiety. At the same time, it can also foster positive social interactions, leading to stronger relationships with others.

6 POWERFUL GRATITUDE PRACTICES THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

1. START AND END YOUR DAY WITH GRATITUDE

Upon waking, take a few moments to appreciate the gift of another day. You can give thanks for the peace and quiet the early morning brings, the sounds of nature, the golden glow of the sunlight shining through the window, or the good nights sleep you had in your comfy bed. You can even appreciate your cup of coffee if it’s something you look forward to every day.

At night, reflect on what went well that day. I like to write a gratitude list at night of things I am grateful for. The act of writing and seeing all the good in my life leaves me feeling content and thankful as I drift off to sleep. I love how this journal has affirmations on the front. It helps me feel good before I even open it! Or journals that ask questions and get you to dig a little deeper are also a nice addition to your gratitude practice. You can check some out here!

2.EXPRESS APPRRECIATION AND THANKS

Words carry energy, and when you intentionally express gratitude, whether through speaking, writing, or feeling it, you create a vibrational shift and attract more things to be grateful for.

So, make a conscious effort to verbally thank people for their actions. It can be anything big of small. Always say, “thank you” when someone shows you kindness or does something for you. A little bit of appreciation can go a long way.

I always say, “thank you” for any and everything. It really is amazing how expressing thanks can make you feel.

3.SHIFT YOUR FOCUS TO THE PRESENT MOMENT

We often get caught up in worries about the future or regrets from the past. We can’t change the past, and we can’t predict the future. All that exists is the present moment. When we are stuck in the past or worried about what may or may not happen in the future, we miss out on the joy and beauty of the present moment.

When we focus on the present moment, we can recognize the gifts that exist in this moment and focus on what is, rather than what isn’t.

Reading positive affirmations and quotes daily can help you appreciate all the good things currently in your life.

4.REFRAME CHALLENGES AS LESSONS

Every hardship carries growth. Sometimes, the most challenging moments in life can yield the most valuable lessons. Instead of focusing on the problem, ask yourself, “What can I learn from this?” More often than not, we are so focused on the issue at hand that we can’t see the lesson. Consider that whatever is happening is happening for you, not to you.

At the time, it can be difficult to see how something so negative can lead to something good. I try to remember that there’s a reason for everything. And once I start to focus on whatever lesson I’m supposed to learn, and accomplish the lesson, something good comes from it and the problem goes away.

5.LIMIT COMPLAINTS AND COMPARISONS

Many of us don’t even realize how much we complain throughout the day. While this is normal, if we can limit our complaining and shift our attention to what we have instead of what we lack, over time, we will rewire our brains to find more things to appreciate.

When you notice a complaint popping into your head, instead of expressing it, pause and redirect your thoughts toward gratitude. You’d be amazed at how much happier you become when you give up complaining and choose gratitude instead.

And I know, we have a bad day, or someone did something that pissed us off, and we want to complain to everyone all about it. Well, when we do that, we’re just reliving it all over again and getting upset about something that is over and gone. Our goal is to be present in the moment and focus on the good that surrounds us currently.

I am guilty of it myself at times. But when I take a moment to be mindful of how it made me feel and how I want to feel, I stop myself from expressing it and bringing those negative feelings back into my present state.

Everyone compares themselves to others or what others have. But when we focus on what we don’t have, we will never have enough. The only person you should compare yourself to is the person you were yesterday.

6.PRACTICE MINDFUL GRATITUDE

Meditation is a powerful mindfulness practice. Meditations that focus on cultivating gratitude are the most beneficial mindfulness gratitude practices.

Mindfulness is known to make it easier to identify and appreciate the good things in your life. It helps you become more aware of your thoughts and feelings.

When you take time each day to be present and appreciate the simple things in your life, you develop a more profound sense of appreciation for life.

Meditation has become a constant staple in my morning routine. Ever since I started meditating, my mind and life have significantly improved.

In fact, meditation is the reason I am writing this blog! It helped me find my passion when I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life! For that, I am forever grateful for meditation and its powerful benefits! You can read all about meditation and how it changed my life here.
